The use of ECG

Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a graph that records the electrical potential change of heart that is connected with time. Electrocardiography is the study of potential changes or voltage changes contained within the heart.

The use of ECG spearheaded by Einthoven in 1903 by using the Galvanometer. String galvanometer is a very sensitive instrument that can record all the little differences of voltage (milivolt) on the heart.

Some of the objectives of the use of ECG can use:

1. To determine the existence of cardiac rhythm disorders / dysrhythmias
2. Heart muscle disorders
3. Influence / effects of heart drugs
4. Disturbance, electrolyte disturbance
5. Pericarditis
6. Estimating the enlargement of the heart / atrial and ventricular hypertrophy
7. Assess pacemaker function.
